THE EVIL THAT MEN DO - BY OCHE JOSEPH OTORKPA

THE EVIL THAT MEN DO - BY OTORKPA JOSEPH OCHE

Hajia Maimuna is a caring mother, a good wife, an excellent entrepreneur, and a Gold merchant. On the 5th of August few years ago while travelling to Abuja Nigeria’s capital city, the vehicle she was travelling in was Blocked by dare devil armed robbers disguised as military men who stripped her of all she had; money, gold and precious ornaments. This hard working lady was bruised, battered, raped and dumped by the road side to die.

When Pricillia, a newly recruited banker boarded a tricycle at the close of work, little did she know that the events that would unfold over the next four hours would change her life forever. It was about 7:35 pm when she left the bank after a long day of debiting and crediting accounts, hopping into the next available tricycle.
Mid way into the ride, other passengers alighted at different bus stops leaving Pricillia and the driver. The decisive moment came when the driver on the excuse of avoiding the usually heavy traffic along Douglas road in Owerri, South East Nigeria, took a detour and ended in an obscure location where he raped Pricilla at gun  point, took her mobile phones and disappeared into thick darkness.
Few weeks later Pricillia was at the Federal Medical Center Owerri to complain of the side effects of the drugs she was given as Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) for HIV. That was when
the unimaginable happened. As Pricillia walked away from the pharmacy, she saw a man having a striking resemblance with the fellow who raped her; he was dropping some relatives who had
come to see a patient at the hospital. As she moved closer, she could not believe her eyes; she was standing face to face with the man who took her most priced asset in a cruel and dehumanizing manner. Convinced that she had the right man, she grabbed his shirt and alerted passersby who gathered within minutes.

As Pricillia narrated her ordeal the man denied the accusation insisting he had nothing to do with her predicament and should be excused, that was when she made a statement that stunned the
crowed. She said, “the man who raped me has a big scar on his thigh, so if you show these people your thighs and there is no scar I will
apologize and let you go”
At this point, a larger crowd had gathered but the driver was not willing to pull down his trousers in full glare of the public, until a policeman showed up. When he pulled down his trousers, a loud noise erupted as the crowd descended on the man beating him up mercilessly.
The hidden scar had exposed him as the man who raped an innocent lady on her way back from the office.
Many disciplined and hard working women have innocently fallen prey to the activities of these hoodlums whose appetite for hard drugs and rape of innocent girls and women have continued to defy solutions.
Raped at age nine by a relative and pregnant at 14 Oprah Winfrey, like many others have experienced the wickedness and brutality of our society. Sadly, it’s an environment where blood lines no longer hold. Increasingly, the girl child is becoming an endangered specie as pedophiles’ continue to roam free in our societies terrorizing the lives of our children and stripping them of all the joy and excitement that comes with childhood.
From New Delhi to New York, from Durban to Rio; women and girls are been hunted down by rapists, abused by pedophiles and emotionally decapitated by a society that is becoming increasingly hostile to the womenfolk.

Quote: “we need a deep social revolution that will give more power
to women, and transform relations between women and men at all levels
of society. It is only when `women can speak up, and have a full say in
decisions affecting their lives, that they will be able to truly protect themselves
and their children-against HIV”

Omar, NLC , Kriston Lally and the Punzee Scheme

Omar, NLC , Kriston Lally and the Punzee Scheme!

It was Warren Buffett who posited that "Honesty was a very expensive gift, and advised that no one should expect it from cheap people" expecting it from the present crop of labour leaders was perhaps the greatest mistake Nigerian workers ever made.

When The Nigerian Labour congress was formed in 1978, the objective was to protect, defend and promote the rights, well-being and the interests of all workers and pensioners.
The multitudes who trooped into the Banking halls of Zenith and Guarantee Trust Bank to pay and apply for the NLC- Kriston lally EPC Housing project ,did so because of the reputation the seal of NLC carried, but unknown to many the glory had departed ! NLC previously seen as voice of the voiceless and defender of the oppressed have become a tool in the hands of those who seek to fleece the weak.

One year after promising to deliver 5000 houses to subscribers in six months not even a single block has been laid on the imaginary site of the project. The initial 300 hecters of land allocated to the NLC and TUC for the project by the Federal Government has been cannibalized and shared to cronies by Omar and his gang.

By choosing to plug the mouth of the National Administrative council members and others using the 10% down payment for homes deposited by hard-working Nigerian families, Omar has not only obtained a one way ticket to jail, he has also destroyed any remaining reputation the NLC has left.

It is sad and shameful that leaders who should be struggling to protect the interest of workers have allowed themselves to be used against the same workers they swore to protect. Today, retirees who had earlier banked on the promises made by these leaders have seen their hopes of retiring into their own houses all but vanished.

Unfortunately, Nigeria's housing deficit which presently stands at 24 million units have become a feeding bottle of sort for these Labor leaders who blame the government for everything including their own inefficiency and irresponsibility.

It is therefore imperative for the EFCC and other agencies of government saddled with the responsibility of tackling financial crimes and punzee schemes to rise up to the occasion and help Nigerian workers recover what the canker worms and Palmer worms have fleeced .

7 Outdated Technologies That had great impact on the lives of Nigerian's

1. Floppy disk : at a point in time it was our only source of storing data , as a university undergraduate you must have one to store either project or materials at a Business Center, it was very useful and very vulnerable.
But show it to an undergraduate today and he/she will tell you what the heck I'd this ?

3 GSM Antenna : its very easy to forget how time flies , when the global system for Mobile telecommunication was introduced in Nigeria only major cities had access to the Network , in some areas people had to climb trees or mountains with their Nokia 3310 or Samsung R220 to get network.

Those days call centers had GSM antenna attached to a phones to enable acquire signal, all that is history now !

3.Cellophane water: Before the advent of pure water or what others choose to Call packaged water , Nigerian's had long been in the business.
It was simple
A. Buy a pack white nylons.

B.Fill each with tap water

C. Tie up with sack rope

D. Refrigerate

E. Start selling

Thanks to pure water this technology has been archived

4,Nintendo, Sega and Un branded Games

Yes this Names still exist as games today but many have forgotten how computer games were the exclusive preserve of rich kids , as a poor kid or a child from a middle income home computer games are things you see in school with that dude whose father owns the tallest building in the city. today with= N= 100 you can get any game software its that easy !

5.VCR: Do you remember watching any Indian movie through the window of your neighbors house because your family could not afford one , you are not alone:

MAN IS THE HEAD OF THE FAMILY (A REJOINDER TO A NAIRALAND THREAD)

When I opened that thread like Many other Nairalander’s I expected to see cogent points that Points to the Fact that despite the Bible say we as Men are still subordinates to our Beautiful wives in many ways, now before you start throwing stones read this carefully

Hitting a woman is the strongest sign of a Man's weakness , forget the Fact that some women can turn the Pope into Mike Tyson , it is completely Unacceptable for any man to hit his wife or vice versa its simply crossing the red line.

There are several reasons why I strongly believe women are technically stronger than men.
Here is a scenario from  typical Nigerian Village:

Scene 1 : Husband and wife wake up and Both head to the Farm ,husband on Bicycle ,wife on Foot

Scene 2 : Wife arrives late Husband starts complaining , wife explains she had to breast feed the child before leaving her with Grand Ma ,quarrel is resolved and  they Both carry out the Farm work together

Scene 3
: Husband Complains he is tired, wife says she Needs time to gather more fire wood , Husband takes some rest under the Mango tree in the Farm while wife gathers more fire wood and picks some fruits for the Kids

Scene 4:

Farm work over, they both get set to head Home , husband mounts his bicycle and Pedal home with little or no Load , wife carrying a heap of farm produce, fruits and fire wood heads Home on foot

Scene 5: Wife on arrival Hope sees husband drinking palm wine under the tree with his friends, greets them and head straight for the fire place to make Brunch

Scene 6: she finishes and serves the family food , Bath the children and wash their clothes but before she could clean up the kids and herself the sun was already setting

Scene : 7 as the sun sets , the Powerful woman already has her dinner on fire , before darkness falls she set the lamp and set dinner before the family, they eat and are all happy

Scene 8. As Night falls they all go to Bed, but while she was about to enjoy her sweet deep and well deserved sleep Oga ( "Head of the Home ") taps her to complain about the ''konjititis'' and the Need to placate the one eyed Snake , again she rises up to the occasion and delivers:

It takes less than 3 minutes for head of the home to fall into slumber after discharging the white paint , but the woman takes more time to sleep because of the earlier interruption to her sleep .

When morning come the whole scenario is repeated

In Urban areas the scenario is not different

Scene 1 : Both wake up and Go to work , return by 5pm all stressed up ,

Scene: 2
on arrival wife moves straight into the kitchen while we the ''head of the home'' start changing channels from BBC to NTA  , from CNN to Aljezeera flipping through newspapers and our phones in the process.

Scene 3: food is served we eat and go to Bed for some rest, she cleans up, and clear out all the rubbish in the house, But immediately she hits the Bed without even allowing her take a breath we pounce on Her, as loving as she is , she looks straight into your eyes and say ''OK but let me change "

On a lighter Note

1. You work for 30 days you collect your 10,000 Salary you carry 4,000 give woman to buy her cream!

Who is the head = the woman

2. You fought over a woman and you got beaten mercilessly and left unconscious by the road side !
Who is the head = the women

3. You feed your family Indomie, while you drink garri. But you buy fried rice and chicken + salad  for that woman !
Who is the head = the woman

4. You Buy Okirika for your children, bend down select for yourself and Gucci for the Babe

Who is the head = the Babe

5. You send =N= 200 credit to your Mum, =N= 100 to your Dad and your own phone only has credit for flashing but you buy =N 3000 credit for the woman !

Who is the Head= the woman

6. Your Fathers Peugeot 504 is grounded, you just bought your babe a Rav 4!

Who is the head= the Babe

7. Your younger sister Needs 100'K for surgery you deny her, but paid 300''K for that woman  to attend her best friends 30th Birthday in the Dubai !

Who is the head = the woman

Finally

God took extra time to make women ,to say they are beautiful is an understatement , he gave them extraordinary grace to cope with situations that could make a man commit suicide ,without women our homes will be in shambles !
However, God can never be wrong, He is just too Intelligent, How can the one who suspended  the ball called earth Without strings be wrong , The Kabiyesi who uses the mouth of Fish as ATM Never fails !

He said Man is the head of the Home

Ephesians 5 Vs 22 -25 AMPLIFIED

5:22 Wives, be subject (be submissive
and adapt yourselves) to your own
husbands as [a service] to the Lord.
5:23 For the husband is head of the wife
as Christ is the Head of the church,
Himself the Savior of [His] body.
5:24 As the church is subject to Christ,
so let wives also be subject in
everything to their husbands.
5:25 Husbands, love your wives, as
Christ loved the church and gave
Himself up for her

Peter 3:1 - Likewise, ye wives, [be] in subjection to
your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word,
they also may without the word be won by the
conversation of the wives;
Lets stop destroying homes by promoting articles that divide the family and destroy society, if we respect our wives, and treat them as Queens , they will make us the Kings we  truly are

ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAYS

PROGRESS WORK ON THE OKENE –AUCHI – BENIN EXPRESS WAY

PROGRESS WORK ON THE OKENE –AUCHI – BENIN EXPRESS WAY

WE just passed through, this road a while ago and  decided to stop and capture the progress work on this axis of the transformation sphere.

NB: the Abuja – Lokoja is almost completed with huge concretized flood barriers and raised embankment

HAPPY VIEWING

Let’s score President Goodluck Jonathan on road infrastructure. To drive economic and social wellbeing of any nation, a good road infrastructure can be likened to arteries, veins and capillaries that comprise the human circulatory system. These blood vessels ensure that digested food, water and oxygen are sent to where they are needed; and thedangerous stuff are shipped out. If, for instance, a blood vessel is blocked so much so that the right amount of oxygen is not sent to the brain on time, the individual could suffer astroke. In the same vein, its social and economic wellbeing could suffer a stroke, if any nation, especially the developing ones like Nigeria, refuses not only to build, but also to expand and maintain its road infrastructure. Raw materials must be moved to manufacturing centres, imports must move from ports to warehouses, exports must be moved to the ports for shipment to target ports, finished goods must go to the market and to individual consumers, workers and others must commute from home to work. Apart from economic reasons, movements also serve social and cultural needs for the people. So, let’s score Jonathan on roads.

The question is simple: has the present federal governmentunder Goodluck Jonathan delivered good road infrastructureto support the smooth operation of economic activities, big and small, in Nigeria? The answer, however, cannot be a yes or a no. A little overview of the context can help. According to the federal ministry of works, there are 35,000 kilometres of roads belonging to the federal government. As at 1983, that is 32 years ago, 80 per cent of these federalroads were constructed and 150,000 vehicles were plying Nigerian roads. The ministry of works further asserted that by 2000, the number of vehicles on the roads had increased to 1.3 million, further jumping to 9 million in 2012. All this time, the total number of bituminous roads in the country did not witness any appreciable increase. The available road network was therefore put under enormous pressure.Meanwhile, rail system which could have provided an alternative means of transportation, especially for haulage has been in coma, more or less, for years. The rail is talk for another day, less we digress. For many years, therefore, it become a nightmare to travel on Nigerian roads with many of these roads described as death traps. The deplorable condition of these roads exposedtravellers to all sorts of hardships and risks. On Benin-Ore-Shagamu expressway, Abuja-Lokoja highway, Kano-Maiduguri expressway, Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway, Onitsha Head Bridge and many other corridors across the country, you meet the same frustrating scenario. Motorists spent days on the roads, especially during rainy seasons and festive periods. Governments came, government went, and the situation remained the same for many years. At times, motorists had to take detours to alternate routes, meandering through bushes to evade long stretches of bad roads. Robbery gangs took advantage of the deplorable road network, ambushing and robbing travellers of their valuables and sometimes their lives. Take the Benin-Ore-Shagamu expressway, for example. Itwas in such a deplorable shape that a journey that should take four hours at times stretched to over twelve hours. OnAugust 6, 2007, the then minister of transport could not hold her tears when she saw what Nigerians go through on that road. “I am very displeased that this road was allowed to degenerate to this level” she said. What was true for Benin-Ore-Shagamu expressway was equally true for lots of federal roads in Nigeria. Democratic rule under mostly Olusegun Obasanjo did not do much as far as federal roads are concerned. President Goodluck Jonathan has not rebuilt all federal roads in Nigeria. No. However, it is safe to simply state that his administration has supervised the most massive construction and rehabilitation efforts on federal roads that Nigerians have ever seen. The Jonathan administration is making a concerted effort to develop a sound road network across the country, an infrastructure that would drive economic growth.A few examples may be necessary here: Let’s go back to the Benin-Ore-Shagamu expressway. The contract for the reconstruction of the 262.5 km road project is being executed by Reynolds Construction Company Nigeria Limited and Borini Prono & Company Nigeria Limited. President Goodluck Jonathan commissioned the Phase One of the road last September. The second phase, as Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen explained, had not been fully completed because of technical challenges but was commendably over 60 per cent done. Today that road is a traveller’s delight. Travellers and transporters on that road have not had it so good in a very long time. Due to the fact that the road is as good as brand new the days of four hour trips has returned on the road.Such delight was last experienced in the 1980s and 1990s. In a move that is not common in this climes, transport giant, ABC Transport Company reportedly reduced its fare prices in a widely circulated advert carried by newspapers, citing the improved condition of the Benin-Ore road and others in general. Literally, the country is today awash with completed and ongoing construction and rehabilitation of federal roads. The Abuja-Abaji-Lokoja dualization road project, the Kano-Maiduguri Dualization road project, the Onitsha-Enugu road project, the Ibadan-Ilorin Road, the Apapa-OshodiExpressway. Others are: Gombe-Bye-Pass in Gombe State,Katsina-Daura Road, Katsina State, Aba-Owerri road in AbiaState, Eleme Junction Flyover and the Dualisation of Access Road to Onne Port, Phases I & II in Rivers State,Rehabilitation/Construction of Ijebu Igbo-Ajegunle-Araromi-Ife-Sekona Road, Section II in Ogun and Osun States,Emergency Reinstatement of Collapsed Section of Gombe-Potiskum Road [Km.12] in Gombe State, Completion of the construction of Mararaba-Bali road in Taraba State,Rehabilitation of Hadejia-Nguru Road, Phase I [Hadejia-Kirikasama] in Jigawa State, Dualisation of Onitsha-OwerriRoad [Section I] and Onitsha Eastern Bye-Pass Section I in Anambra State, Completion of the Rehabilitation ofObiozara-Uburu-Ishiagu-Awgu Road, Phase I, in Ebonyi and Enugu States, Construction of a bridge at Lafenwa in OgunState. Rehabilitation of 8 Nos. Expansion Joints on 3rd Mainland Bridge [Phase I] in Lagos State, Dualisation of Ibadan-Ilorin road Section I [Ibadan-Oyo] in Oyo State, Lagos-Ibadan expressway and so on.
The Nigerian economy is better off for it. Goods and services are moved from point to point in reduced time and reduced cost as travelling on new and improved roads becomes easier and safer. Research shows that majority of Nigeria road users found it easier to travel to their different destinations in various parts of the country during the last Christmas holiday, unlike the previous years. These ones feel that the roads are indeed better. The taste of pudding is indeed in the eating. So how do we score President Jonathan? Should we leave it to those road users who heave a sigh of relief anytime the use the newly refurbished federal roads? Should we score Jonathan based on reduced passenger travel times, reduced vehicle operating costs, and reduced traffic related fatalities? Nigerians has witnessed all these indices go up as a result of the effort of the present administration under Goodluck Jonathan. Let everyone score the president on road networks according to facts on the ground and dictates of conscience.
